There’s no doubt we’re entering a challenging time economically. While travel budgets are shrinking and the global economy has slowed, many airlines are operating their aircraft longer and are looking at ways to extend the life of aging fleets. And when the industry recovers, it is likely that airlines will not retire some of their older aircraft immediately as demand for air travel begins to rise once more.
Extension of aircraft service life poses challenges in continuing to operate these aircraft economically and with high reliability. At Honeywell, we understand these challenges and are committed to working with our customers on programs to extend the life of their fleets, while helping airlines save money and most importantly, time, so they can keep flying. This has an added significance in this challenging business environment of unstable fuel costs. For example, one Honeywell airline customer will save 7 percent over the next 10 years under a long-term contract with Honeywell to provide aftermarket repair and overhaul services on their current fleet and future aircraft deliveries—covering Honeywell’s Auxiliary Power Units (APU), Hydro Mechanical Units (HMU), avionics, lighting, mechanical components, and wheels and brakes.
As always, I welcome your comments.
